July 2007

Another frustrating month - at least to begin with.

On the 11th we decided to take a three day trip out to Pollington and back but, despite the rain, we enjoyed it so much we decided we couldn't go back to the marina. We carried on to Goole to finish all the details on the house sale, pick up the car, pay the bill at Blue Water and set off for real.

At Goole we moor alongside Ramyshome and enjoy a few drinks, and pleasant conversation, in the clubhouse with Roger and Maureen who are on year three of their gap year! (Thanks R & M, I have stolen some ideas from your web site for this one - hope you don't mind)

Set off again on the 14th. overnight stop at Pollington then luch time stop in the pouring rain at Whitley Bridge. The rain never stopped but sunday lunch and a few beers in the local pub helped. On 16th off to Ferrybridge but the river was still in flood. Overnight rain meant it was even worse in the morning so we decided to go all the way back to Goole.

We were pretty fed up at this point but a phone call fron the estate agent changed all that - an offer, which we accepted, on the house.

So we grab a marina mooring for a week, get Pickfords in and then on the 23rd off we go again.

On the 24th we reach Ferrybridge again, this time the lock gates open before us as if we were royalty and the the locky sends us onto the river.

All goes well and by 27th we are moored in Savile Town Basin at the end of the arm into Dewsbury.

Perfect timing, on Sunday we enjoyed the Dewsbury Canal Festival!

Good cruising, good company as friends joined us, we will stay here for a week and then set of for the Huddersfield canals.

We are really on our way - and loving it!
